Knitting
I started knitting more than twenty years ago, when I was a grad student and wanted something to keep my hands busy. A friend taught me to knit and I took it from there, learning from books like Stitch N’ Bitch before YouTube videos existed to help self-starters like me. I’ve never been a fast knitter, but when I need something to do with my hands, the yarn and needles are always there, even more so than the loom or the wheel.
Fiber arts brings people together through a love of this craft, hobby, and art, and I’m sure that no matter what comes next, the needles and their companion pursuits will come with me, helping me find and create community.
Knitting is primarily a hobby for me, and for reasons of privacy, I don’t have photos here of friends and family for whom I’ve knit.
